She took her talent to another level to create a brand many have learned to love.
Shannon is an entrepreneur based in the Metro Detroit area. BagCrush, established in 2015, is a luxury line of bags, purses, wallets, clothing, and experiences. Shannon is the lead designer who create, cut, design, and sews handmade handbags. You wouldn’t believe that she’s self-taught when you see these bags. Shannon started by making clutch bags only, advancing her skill, style, and impeccable talent to enhance her line by adding unique styled bags such as backpacks, fanny packs, fringe bags, hobo bags, and more.
Hustle and Soul Magazine obtained an exclusive interview with Shannon.
Where did you grow up and how was your childhood?
Shannon: I grew up in Royal Oak Township, MI. My childhood definitely had its ups and downs. Challenging at times but, for the most part I had a decent childhood.
What would your younger self say to the woman that you are today?
Shannon: I’m so proud of the woman you have blossomed into becoming. You always held your head high in the midst of the challenges that came your way. You stuck to being YOURSELF when sometimes being told that YOURSELF wasn’t good enough. You never let what people said about you to hold you down. It only made you a better woman. I’m glad you took your artistry to the next level. Keep pushing you are the STAR that you ALWAYS knew you were. Dad is very proud of you. SALUTE QUEEN!
Did you always know that you wanted to be a business owner or was there ever any other profession you wanted to obtain?
Shannon: When I was younger I wanted to become a teacher because I love kids. As I got a little older I realized that I couldn’t see myself working for anyone but myself. If I ever got the chance that’s what I was gonna do. I’ve always been an artist and that started from my grandmother. I didn’t know exactly what I was going to be doing as an entrepreneur but, I knew my artistry was going to take me in the direction that I am now. I never thought creating handbags would be my profession but, I’m so elated about this self taught journey that God has me on. Im truly blessed.
What are the three qualities you feel an entrepreneur must have?
Shannon: Consistency — stay on top of your brand. Promote, Promote, Promote. Even if you feel people are tired of seeing your brand promote even more. Trust me they are watching.
Never give up — Being an entrepreneur can be very challenging at times but, never give up. If you can see it you can achieve it.
Patience — Success does not happen overnight. Your time will come. Put the work in and you will see the beautiful outcome.
Who are some people in your profession that you are inspired by?
Shannon: I get inspired by so many handbag designers. A couple that I just love and I’m going to be a household name just like them are:
Just walking into their establishment is mind blowing in itself. So elegant and rich looking. Bag Crush will be the same way with a lot of EDGY to add to it.
Where do you see your business in 10 years? How do you plan to get there?
Shannon: Bag Crush will have a brick and mortar in all the major cities including Paris and more. It will be a household name. Bag Crush will also be sold in all the high end department stores. I’m going to continue to build and promote my brand. Get as much exposure as possible. It will take that one person to take Bag Crush to the next level.
Any shoutouts you would like to give?
Shannon: I would like to give a shout-out to Natasha Lee for believing in Bag Crush and going hard for my brand. I’m so glad we crossed paths. Two bosses connecting nothing but greatness happens. I’m glad to be apart of #ThatGirlTribe. We just getting started. https://www.mydct.net
