Music Artist To Watch: Mr. Chenier
Inspired by the greats like Michael Jackson, Smokey Robinson, Babyface, Marvin Gaye, and Brian McKnight, Chenier Wilson, also known as Mr. Chenier, writes all of his music with a mission to spread love through song. He is an all-around entertainer, From music to film, his goal is to represent the Grown and Sexy movement in R&B music to the fullest.
The accomplished music artist is on the rise and is making a huge impact amongst his supporters with each album, song, music video, and performance. The performances include 17 successfully packed crowds for the Night of Soul R&B concert.
Mr. Chenier is a 7x Nominee for Male R&B Artist of the Year at the Carolina Music Awards, 2x Winner for Male R&B Artist of the Year at the Bull City Music Awards, and Winner for Music Video of the Year at the Bull City Music Awards. He’s also opened for Ginuwine, J. Holiday, Avant, Kelly Price, Dru Hill, and Tony Terry.
Hustle and Soul Magazine obtained an exclusive interview with Mr. Chenier.
Congratulations on all of your awards, music videos, songs, and your amazing career so far! What was the experience like for you opening for legends such as Ginuwine, Kelly Price, and Dru Hill?
Mr. Chenier: Thank you so much!! It feels good to be acknowledged after all of the hard work that was put in. It was a beautiful feeling to share the same stage with those legendary artists. When I met Ginuwine, I actually had the honor of announcing him on stage. It was like we were brothers.
Please tell us about some of your albums and what they mean to you.
Mr. Chenier: My 1st EP “In The Beginning” means the most to me because it includes my first song written and professionally recorded called “One Fantasy”. My most recent EP “Night To Remember” shows my growth with songs like Grown Man Ish, Night To Remember and my dance hit called The Nite(Give It To Me)
What has been your favorite music video and favorite song of yours and why?
Mr. Chenier: My favorite music video would be The Nite(Give It To Me). I love to dance and I also featured the steppin group Steppin In Style out of Raleigh, NC. My favorite song I love to sing is Superman!
Besides your rising music career, what are some super fun facts about yourself that many people are not aware of?
Mr. Chenier: I’m a kid at heart!! I love watching old school cartoons. I play video games and I love 80’s pop music!
What goals do you have in the next few years?
Mr. Chenier: I want to further my career in the entertainment field, from movies to music, and of course reach that level of Grammy award status! Get into some writing for other artists and be a blueprint for making it in the industry.
What keeps you motivated to stay in the music industry?
Mr. Chenier: The love for the business and the passion I have for creating great music. There are good and bad situations but that’s the industry. At the end of the day, I look forward to seeing what challenges the next day in this business brings!
What advice would you have for anyone who aspires to become a music artist?
Mr. Chenier: You MUST have a passion for this business. Learn the business. EAT….SLEEP…and BREATHE this business!! #SOLID!
