Butta B- Rocka, you are a multifaceted serial entrepreneur and before we get to that aspect, can you share how your name came about?
My name, Butta B-Rocka, is a combination of my high school nickname, “Butta,” and the nickname I acquired in the studio. When I was in high school singing, my friends used to call me “Butta” because I was always so smooth and laid-back. And when I moved to Atlanta, my senior year and began working in the studio doing backgrounds for TLC- the producers use to call me B-Rocka. So when I decided to release my debut album “Switch Lanes”, I combined the two and created my stage name, Butta B-Rocka. I think my name is a good representation of who I am as an artist. I’m smooth, I’m laid-back, and I B-Rocking (lol).
With your career it is your goal to spread as much joy and positivity as possible. Do you have those days when you’re writing and singing, well just work mode, that you just don’t feel like being positive and how do you get out of that slump per se?
Sure, I do have those days. I’m human. And it’s perfectly normal to feel down sometimes. But I’ve learned a few things over the years that help me to get out of a slump.
- I take breaks, go for a walk, read a book, or spend some time with loved ones. Sometimes, all it takes is a change of scenery to get your mind off of whatever is bothering you.
- I talk to someone. Sometimes, it helps to talk to someone about how you’re feeling. This could be a friend, family member, therapist, or anyone else you trust. Talking about your problems can help you to process them and to feel better.
- Do something you enjoy for me that’s listening to music, or watching a good movie.
- And last, I practice self-care. Self-care is important for everyone, but it’s especially important when you’re feeling down. This could mean taking a bath, getting a massage, or doing anything else that makes you feel good.
Speaking of being multifaceted, you have a new song out called Time Stands Still. Can you share a little bit about the song?
Time Stands Still is a song about the power of love. It’s about how love can make time stand still and make you feel like you’re the only two people in the world. After my husband proposed, it was the most magical moment, and I felt like time stood still. I wanted to capture that feeling in a song, and that’s what Time Stands Still is all about. I’m really excited to share Time Stands Still with the world. I hope that it will inspire people to believe in love. Time Stands Still has charted to #46 on the charts! So I’m beyond excited that it’s being well received!
And that’s not the only release for the first half of the year that you’re celebrating. Your romantic comedy feature film Finding the Perfect Guy is out now. You have multiple hats with this project. How excited are you? And can you walk us through the process of how it came about?
I’m so excited to share Finding the Perfect Guy with the world. It’s been a labor of love for me, and I’m so proud of what we’ve created. I wear multiple hats on this project, including writer, executive producer, and director. I’m also the lead actress. It’s been a challenging but rewarding experience. During Covid, while the world was shut down, I wasn’t able to tour singing, so this provided ample time for me to explore and figure out my other talents. I had always wanted to make a film but didn’t know how. I had written a play before and understood how the writing style and flow had to go. Initially my plan was to do web series, In fact, I had written 13 episodes but seeing how much it would cost, to film all of those episodes, it was more feasible to condense my series into a feature film, that I self-funded. Finding the Perfect Guy , is a romantic comedy about a recently divorced mother, who, with the help of her friends tries to navigate this new dating world after 15 years of being married. I knew that I wanted to make a film that would resonate with other women, and I drew from past experience of when I dated as well as I reflected on my friends relationships. I also wanted to make a film that would be funny and heartwarming. I’m so grateful to the cast and crew who helped bring Finding the Perfect Guy to life. They were all so talented and dedicated, and they worked tirelessly to make the film the best it could be. I’m also happy to report, I had my private screening to a sold out star studded crowd, and upon pitching my film to multiple platforms, we received 6 offers from various distribution companies. After speaking with my attorney, we just inked our deal with one of them and Finding the Perfect Guy should be streaming on multiple platforms, very, very, soon!!
As a multifaceted serial entrepreneur it has to be a lot to juggle, how do you balance everything? How does self-care look like for an entrepreneur like you?
As a multifaceted serial entrepreneur, I know how difficult it can be to balance everything. There are always so many demands on my time, and it can be easy to get overwhelmed. However, I’ve learned a few things over the years that have helped me to stay sane and productive.
- One of the most important things I’ve done is to set clear boundaries between my work life and my personal life..
- As an entrepreneur, it’s easy to want to do everything yourself. However, this is a recipe for burnout, so I’ve learned to delegate certain tasks to others so that I can focus on the things that only I can do..
- It’s important for me to take care of myself which includes me eating healthy, getting enough sleep, and exercising regularly.
- And last. I have a strong support system of family and my friends.
Let this story inspire you to continue to push through and be the boss woman you are!
