Meet Genora Smith: The Traveling Realtor

Everywhere we look in the news we are hearing about the trends in real estate and how now is the time to sell. Mortgage rates on 30-year fixed-rate loans have climbed from about 3.5% earlier this year to upwards of 5.6%, and pros say they may go higher. Home prices too have made a steady climb upwards, growing about 20% from March 2021 to March 2022, according to CoreLogic. With that being said it is a busy time for real estate agents and a time to really grow. We had the opportunity to sit down with an Atlanta agent who has been able to thrive in the current market. Genora Smith is a wife, mom, agent, and overall boss. Originally from Maryland, Genora is making a name for herself in Atlanta as the “Traveling Realtor”.

In 2016 April was established as International Black Women’s History Month. The month has now passed but what does this mean to you?

Genora: The fact that we Black Women are being celebrated makes me proud and it shows some growth within our country. It makes me feel valued and appreciated.

Who do you feel is your target market/client?

Genora: My target market is home buyers, sellers, and investors all over the globe. I would love to just say I’m a luxury agent however I got into real estate to help educate the uneducated and let them know about the various programs available for low-income families. I want to make a great living. My goal is to make a greater impact on my community.

What do you define as success?

Genora: Success to me is being able to wake up and do whatever my heart desires. Being able to provide for my family and not miss a beat in my kid’s life is everything success is to me.

What was the inspiration behind your brand?

Genora: The inspiration behind my brand is to make everyone feel welcomed. This is why I chose the name Welcome Home GA! I think my brand reflects me and I reflect my brand.

How do you differentiate your business from the competition?

Genora: I stay true to myself! I solely focus on the needs of my clients and nothing else. I’ve witnessed so many agents fail to try to duplicate other agents’ tactics. Competition is always going to be there but being authentic separates me from the rest.

What has been your most effective marketing strategy to grow your business?

Genora: I believe providing buyers and sellers with quality service has been the best marketing strategy to grow my business. I’ve received so many referrals from previous clients which leads to a larger clientele.

What’s your best piece of advice for aspiring and new entrepreneurs?

Genora: My best piece of advice to aspiring and new entrepreneurs is to not allow the world to set your goals and to never rush your come up because there’s quality in waiting your turn.

Who is your business role model? Why?

Genora: I don’t have a role model at this time but I will say I love the way Egypt Sherrod has branded herself. She marketed herself and her brand and is now being seen all over different networks. Real life goals.

What do you have planned for the next six months?

Genora: The next 6 months will be interesting. There are rumors of another recession taking place and the housing market is expected to suffer. My plan is to work on producing buyers and collaborating with more investors.

I also plan to travel and create more memories with my family.
