Hustle and Soul Magazine got an exclusive interview with Fifteen East Media Group Principal Publicist Gianni Spradley.

Tammy Reese: What sets Fifteen East Media Group apart from other PR and Marketing agencies?

Gianni Spradley: Having a vast background in public relations, branding, and marketing from Corporate America, it was very important for me to bring some of the skills I cultivated during my 15+ years career.

Specifically, the level of professionalism and white-glove service is super important for me to deliver to clients. When a client isn’t happy, I want to find a solution that is feasible for all parties involved.

Public relations, branding, and marketing services are deemed a luxury, however, it is a needed service if you are trying to amplify the visibility of your brand.

Tammy Reese: How has business been during the pandemic?

Gianni Spradley: That’s a LOADED question! (smile.)  To be totally transparent, when the pandemic hit in March 2020, I was scared. Everything I knew was no longer. In fact, I lost two major clients during the beginning of the pandemic (March/April) and I didn’t know what to do. A lot of people don’t realize that when small businesses lose customers, it’s a major hit because that’s how we sustain our lifestyle. Rent, utilities, food – adulting at its best!

During this time, I started my meditation practice to obtain clarity/peace as I needed to be grounded. During one of my daily meditation practices, I heard a voice telling me that everything was going to be alright and that my Ancestors would carry me through. And let me tell you – that voice didn’t lie! Aside from the pandemic, our country was (and still is) dealing with systematic racism and the domino effects it caused regarding people of color.

There was a LOT of chat ‘bout regarding supporting black-owned businesses not receiving the same opportunities as our Caucasian counterparts and it really shined a bright light on the ugliness that has been perpetuated for centuries.

During that shift, it enabled our firm to be called upon to assist with Diversity and Inclusions efforts for major corporate clients and we’ve been busier than ever before. I hired a full staff during Q3 2020 as well as secured office space to operate at a full capacity. I am eternally grateful for the opportunities that have been presented in such uncertain times.

Tammy Reese: What have been some memorable moments in your career so far?

Gianni Spradley: Our firm was highlighted in PR Week for #BlackOutTuesday, which put a spotlight on the untimely and unjust death of Mr. George Floyd.

As a black-owned business, it is IMPERATIVE for people to know that hiring a black-owned business is not some sort of “trend” and we execute the same caliber of products/services as our Caucasian, Indian and Chinese counterparts.

We are much more than just social media activism (i.e. fake woke.) We are active in our communities (and beyond) to really make an impact and change.

Tammy Reese: What type of clients do you serve?

Gianni Spradley: We specialize in the beauty, health/wellness, food/beverage, and lifestyle spaces, along with businesses in the non-profit and for-profit sectors. There are occasions where we work on projects for celebrity clients, too.

Tammy Reese: What type of feedback do you get from your clients?

Gianni Spradley:  My team and I produce RESULTS. People think entrepreneurship is sexy. Tuh! In all honesty, it takes a certain someone with a high level of discipline to really run a successful business.

When I first started Fifteen East Media Group, it was rough. I had to find clients, create and maintain relationships with press and media contacts, network with other publicists and attend events, stay on top of trends, etc. all while keeping the lights on (and sometimes, they got cut off.) But one thing about me is that I go HARD.

My tenacity and strength are unparalleled. I’ve always had an unwavering spirit to achieve the dreams that were placed on my heart no matter what the circumstance was. As the kids say “I got it out the mud.”

Tammy Reese: What else would you like our readers to know about your business?

Gianni Spradley: My team and I love what we can execute for our clients, but what we do is not who we are. We are so much more! This pandemic has shown us that it’s more to life than just going to work/school and coming home; we have to appreciate the present and live in the now.

Find what makes you happy and create boundaries so you can be a better representation of yourself! Through it all, we are eternally grateful.
