What would attract listeners to your story?
Ken: If they are in a relationship and want to do a business together or if they have an idea and faith and want to see it through. Seeing how everything is not roses and rainbows but you can still do well.
What do you have planned for the next six months?
Tamara: The next 6 months we plan to grow our customer base, rent out our commercial kitchen, rent our retail space for private events and teach small baking/decorating classes.
What is your proudest business accomplishment?
Ken: I would say the 10-year anniversary of our business and taking our grant in leveraging it to a six-figure loan with the SBA.
What is your best selling dessert?
Ken: Cheesecake(Banana Pudding, Sweet Potato and Strawberry) and Sweet Potato Pound Cake.
Are there any interesting or challenging aspects of running a bakery that people may not be aware of?
Tamara: Challenges are during some months(summer) your sales may decline due to travel or January where people are starting a diet/New Years Resolution.
People should be aware that other dessert companies are watching what you’re doing and copying you and you have to be an innovator so you can stay on top of your game.
What role does creativity play in your bakery, and how do you come up with new and innovative recipes?
Tamara: Creativity plays a huge role because we create our own lane and we stand out which can make it hard for our competitors. We’re constantly creating new desserts and things for our dessert lovers community by just staying in tune with them. We don’t jump on the latest 10 second fad. We stay true to ourselves.
Can you share any heartwarming or memorable customer stories that have happened at your bakery?
Tamara: One of our repeat customers purchased a slice of our Big Mama Coconut Cake. She thought her mom made the best coconut cake and told us it was better than her mom’s.
Our grand opening where Ken’s parents and my cousin and uncle came from Detroit to see and support.
