He also performed in New York, NY for the Jewish Council of Public Affairs on CSPAN News. He has been featured on NBC, Fox News, and CBS. Hustle and Soul Magazine got an exclusive interview with Kris.

Tammy Reese: What inspired you to get into the entertainment industry?

Kris Sykes: I really admire entertainment as an art, I love the planning of it, the execution, and the final reaction. Even before I knew what exactly I would be doing I knew I would be on television.

Tammy Reese: How did headlining at the National Gallery of Art Museum come about?

Kris Sykes: I worked with an organization called Split this Rock as a teaching artist. We would also do performances at events in the D.C. area and the National Gallery of Art was one of the most memorable.

Tammy Reese: What are some other memorable moments in your career so far?

Kris Sykes: The NFL is definitely the first thing that comes to mind, and of course the film. There are other moments of course like the Capital Building but those are the two that jump into my mind first.

Tammy Reese: What was the experience like performing at the  NFL Honors Awards?

Kris Sykes: It was life-changing not only because of the fact I was going to be on TV. or because it was the NFL, the production team that filmed the video was amazing and really taught me a lot and gave me all the encouragement in the world.

Tammy Reese: What are you currently working on?

Kris Sykes: I’m doing a lot of writing and preparing to release my latest collection of poems, and I’m also set to appear in a couple of upcoming projects so stay tuned.

Tammy Reese: What do you enjoy most about the work that you do?

Kris Sykes: When I say something or act out a role that directly connects to people I come across day-to-day and I get to have those discussions and share stories with people everywhere.

Tammy Reese: Who is your favorite poet and why?

Kris Sykes: Sounds cliché but Edgar Allen Poe, because of his thoughts on rhyme and the overall way he thought in the time he lived is crazy. Our imagination is only an extension of the stimuli we’ve come across and back then they weren’t introduced to a lot of stimuli, not to sound too scientific.

Tammy Reese: What are some of your own favorite poems?

Kris Sykes: I like the first book of Solomon in the bible. It was actually one of the first forms of poetry, the whole first verse is a poem and it’s so descriptive you can see the whole thing in your head and I think that’s dope.

I listen to a lot of poets but by far the young adult poets continuously shock me every time.

Tammy Reese: What else can we be on the lookout for from you?

Kris Sykes: I’m doing a lot of writing and exploring writing for television, so look for me in the credits soon.
